El Sistema Summer Academy

Monday to Friday, August 11-22

Designed especially for students from El Sistema-inspired programs across the greater Boston area, this program will foster friendships, enhance musical artistry, and promote leadership skills through the orchestra. We look forward to hosting some of Boston’s finest young musicians for two weeks of music immersion and inspiration.

About IBIL

The International Baroque Institute at Longy offers a comprehensive program for professional and pre-professional singers, dancers and players of baroque violin, cello, viola da gamba, recorder, traverso, oboe & harpsichord, taught by an unparalleled international faculty. Other instrumentalists or continuo players (viola, harp, lute, organ, bassoon, violone, etc.) are welcome to join the Chamber Music program and the Institute Orchestra. The seminar features eight full days of master classes, ensembles, orchestra sessions, continuo coaching, concerts, lectures and projects, and opportunity for public performances. To provide the highest level learning experience, we select our faculty from among the finest performers and teachers in the field of Baroque music.

Early Dance Summer Workshop

July 27 - August 2, 2014

An intensive workshop in early dance, with emphasis on baroque dance but also including a daily late-renaissance dance class. 
Intended for experienced dancers with a serious interest in early dance, the workshop will include classes in technique, repertoire, and dance notation, with opportunities for independent projects and performance. The early dance workshop will run concurrently with the International Baroque Institute at Longy (IBIL), allowing the possibility of joint performances with IBIL students. Dancers are welcome to attend IBIL lectures and performances as the schedule allows.

The 2014 workshop will include study of German dance sources, including I.H.P.’s Maître de Danse, oder Tanz-Meister

It is equally applicable to the music classroom and the private studio, to the beginning musician and the advanced performer. Rhythmic movement, intense listening and improvisation unlock creativity and open the doors to enriched and enlivened music making. The Dalcroze Eurhythmics Institute is designed for music teachers, instrumentalists, singers, conductors, composers, actors, dancers, and music therapists.The Institute includes License- and Certificate-level methods classes, Eurhythmics, Solfège, and keyboard improvisation. All classes are grouped according to level. In addition, participants may select a weekly elective class.
