Audition Requirements (PDF)

Longy’s full-day music immersion program provides superb musical training and performing experience, preparing talented young musicians for a lifetime in music and the arts. Founded in 1977 by eminent violinist Roman Totenberg, the program attracts serious young musicians ages 8-13 from all over New England. Rooted in a long-standing tradition of excellence, this three-level program offers a comprehensive, sequential musical education.

The program is a combination of required and elective courses and ensembles flexible enough to fit the needs and interests of each student while fulfilling Longy’s commitment to provide the best in musical training and preparing musicians to make a difference in the world.

Longy offers both instrumental and vocal training programs that are multi-tracked and tailored to fit the needs of individual students. The curriculum features a musicianship class, an ensemble class, a performance class and electives. Students taking private lessons at Longy receive a discount on tuition. All students are required to perform throughout the year and participate in annual juries.

In addition to weekly ensembles and musicianship classes, the semester-long Young Performers Program includes:

  • Four performances in our school-wide recitals
  • Rehearsal and coaching with pianist/accompanist in preparation for recitals
  • Technical and Performance Juries
  • Mock Auditions
  • Performance Lab
