A Far Cry presents
WORDS AND THE NIGHT WITH ROGER TAPPING, viola
Boston’s non-conducted string orchestra A Far Cry will present Words and the Night, the final program of its inaugural concert season. The innovative program pairs sixteenth-century vocal music with much later music, allowing composers separated by centuries to converse with one another about the might. Motets by Palestrina pair with Mozart’s Divertimento No. 3, songs by Dowland complement Britten’s Lachrymae, and madrigals by Gesualdo set the scene for Schoenberg’s Verklarte Nacht.
Performing with A Far Cry in Britten’s Lachrymae will be violist Roger Tapping. Mr. Tapping is formerly a member of the Takács Quartet, one of the world’s foremost string quartets, with whom he toured and recorded extensively, receiving three Gramophone Awards, a Grammy, and the BBC Music Disc of the Year Award. Mr. Tapping teaches at the Longy School of Music.
