Program Highlights
STUDIO LESSONS: Collaboration with a faculty mentor is the cornerstone of conservatory education at Longy. Together you will explore your unique artistic and professional goals while expanding technical and musical insight.

MASTER CLASSES AND SEMINARS: Through workshops, master classes, discussions, and mock auditions, frequent seminars offer insight regarding interpretation, orchestral and ensemble repertoire, and performance practice. Recent presenters have included Chester Schmitz, Norman Bolter, and Kevin Owen.

CHAMBER MUSIC: Georges Longy’s belief in the power of collaboration inspires the central role of chamber music in our conservatory. You will work closely with faculty coaches every semester and will explore ensemble playing through coursework, informal readings, and community outreach.

PEDAGOGY: We believe that teaching should be a form of heightened, enlivened communication. Rather than focusing solely on acquiring pedagogical skills, we seek to draw out your latent expertise and help you communicate authentically.

ORCHESTRAL REPERTOIRE: Courses explore the standard orchestral repertoire, focusing on technique and style. Particular emphasis is placed on orchestral audition preparation.

LONGY CONSERVATORY ORCHESTRA: Led by conductor Julian Pellicano, the orchestra presents six concerts and accompanies one opera per season, exploring a wide range of repertoire encompassing baroque and contemporary music in addition to the classical and romantic canon. Works performed in recent seasons include:

Adams: The Wound Dresser Ginastera: Variaciones Concertantes
Barber: Knoxville Summer of 1915 Haydn: Symphonies no. 92 and 104
Beethoven: Symphony no. 8 Mendelssohn: Symphony no. 4
Brahms: Symphony no. 2 Schumann: Symphony no. 4
Dvorak: Symphony no. 9 Sibelius: Symphony no. 2
