Artist Diploma in Chamber Music Performance
Chamber Music Studies at Longy
Chamber music is central to the activities of nearly every Longy faculty and student musician. This tradition, which dates back to Georges Longy's fervent advocacy of wind chamber music to Bostonians in the 1910s and '20s, continues to shape Longy's programs in string, wind, piano, and vocal performance. As an area of study for majors in these departments or in a specialized Artist Diploma program for established ensembles, chamber playing is a daily activity, one particularly suited to an institution of well-matched, advanced performers.
Each semester, masterclasses with such artists as Charles Castleman, Leon Fleisher, Joan Panetti, Menahem Pressler, Joseph Silverstein, and the St. Lawrence and Ying Quartets broaden students' experience as chamber artists.
Ensembles-in-Residence
The Artist Diploma program in Chamber Music is open to pre-formed chamber ensembles that exhibit exceptional promise for a performing career. Ensembles coach with Longy faculty and distinguished visiting artists, and present four Pickman Hall recitals. Interested ensembles should contact the Admissions Office for further details.
