This traditional conservatory program allows graduate-level pianists, singers, and instrumentalists (including those specializing in Collaborative Piano, Early Music, Modern American Music, and Opera) to focus intensively on performance. Each of four semesters includes individual instruction and appropriate ensemble opportunities. The single schoolwide requirement for Graduate Performance Diploma candidates is Experiential Education (2 semesters, 1 credit per semester). For students in all departments except Opera, the first year concludes with a promotional jury or recital, at which sufficient progress in the major instrument must be demonstrated, the second with a final diploma recital.
The Graduate Performance Diploma in Opera is a highly structured program of coaching and performance, preparing advanced singers for the operatic stage. Dedicated to helping students hone their skills, the directors and coaches of Opera at Longy provide rigorous training in acting and role preparation, audition repertory, stage technique, and diction.
