Two letters of recommendation
Your application must include two recommendations from educators who are familiar with your musical aptitude. These letters should be submitted to Longy electronically using the online application, which will require you to provide the name and email address of your recommenders. Once your online application is submitted, an email with detailed instructions for completing the recommendation electronically will be sent directly to your recommenders. If teachers do not want to submit recommendations electronically, a signed and sealed letter can be mailed to the admissions office. There is no required recommendation form.
Merit Scholarship and Financial Aid Application
All applicants wishing to be considered for merit scholarship awards or federal financial aid must complete this section of the online application in full. Please provide an accurate estimation of personal and family contributions, and do not provide an answer of “$0” in every category. Longy always tries to do its best to make your Longy education affordable, but we also want to see that students are willing to invest in their education and future.
Application Fee of U.S. $50
All applicants must pay a non-refundable application fee of U.S. $50 (Longy students and alumni applying to a second Longy program must submit a fee of $30). This fee is required in order to submit the online application and is payable by credit card.

Original academic records and transcripts
Please submit original transcripts of previous academic work. Undergraduate applicants must submit all high school transcripts, while graduate applicants need only submit transcripts of all previous collegiate work. Undergraduate transfer applicants who have completed more than 32 credits at the collegiate level do not have to submit high school transcripts. Transcripts from non-U.S. institutions must be translated into English when necessary. For evaluation purposes, a grade key should accompany all international college transcripts.
Prescreening recording
All Vocal Performance, Opera, and Artist Diploma applicants are required to submit a prescreening recording by December 15 via ArtsApp. Applicants must submit a prescreening recording with a program consistent with the audition requirements established for one’s major department. Click here for a list of audition requirements. Longy does not expect applicants to submit a studio-quality recording; we are listening for the quality of musicianship and performance, not the quality of the recording itself.

Original TOEFL score report
All applicants must demonstrate sufficient English language proficiency. All applicants whose first language is not English must submit an official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score report. The TOEFL reporting code for Longy is 3467. Applicants should register early for the TOEFL, as Longy must receive the test results no later than March 1. Completing a full-time degree program at a college or university where English is the language of instruction may be grounds for a waiver of the TOEFL requirement. All students seeking this waiver must submit a written request for a TOEFL waiver and a writing sample to the Director of Admissions, who then will determine if the waiver request is granted. Students who achieve the following scores may enroll without restriction:
