PERFORMING ENSEMBLES The chamber music experience can be one of the most fulfilling in all musical study and performance endeavors. Students are auditioned and placed in ensembles according to level, scheduling needs, and instrumentation. While a great effort is made to place all students, it is often not possible to offer an appropriate group. If commitment to a full semester is not possible, please consider participation in a short course! Through our short course offerings (fall and spring semesters), students can share their performance explorations with others in a comfortable but stimulating workshop atmosphere with optional performances.
Pacifica Quartet Residency: Opportunity for Continuing Studies Students The award-winning quartet is known not only for its skilled interpretation of the traditional quartet repertoire but also for its willingness to perform innovative 20th- and 21st-century works. They will be in residence at Longy for the next four years and will present performances, master classes, and participate in Longy's Experiential Education Program. They will offer two workshops for Continuing Studies chamber music students:
Fall workshop: Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007 , 7:30-9:30 PM
Spring workshop: Wednesday, Apr. 9, 2008 , 6:00-8:00 PM
Students in both the traditional course and the short course may participate without fee.

Intermediate to advanced string, woodwind, and piano players are invited to participate in this coached Chamber Music series. Individuals as well as preformed groups are all welcome to participate. Players will be assigned music in advance based on the Amateur Chamber Music Players standards (available online at http://www.acmp.net). Each session, Longy's distinguished faculty will present a special interactive topic as part of the day's activities. In addition, groups will have coached and individual rehearsal times. The series will culminate with a final event for all at the end of the third session, which will include an informal optional performance for class members or an informal optional performance open to the public. The final plan of the course will depend on the instrumentation and levels of participants. For this reason, we must set a registration deadline of October 12 for the fall and February 15 for the spring.
