Continuing Studies: Performance Opportunities
PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES
The Jonathan and Louise Alden Cohen Continuing Studies Recital series was initiated to offer formal recital opportunities specifically for Continuing Studies students. These recitals are open to all musicians enrolled in private lessons, instrumental and vocal group classes and small ensembles.
Musical Evenings showcase select performances from the Preparatory, Continuing Studies, and Conservatory divisions. Continuing Studies musicians will particularly appreciate the high quality of these concerts whether they participate as a performer or audience member. Recitals are scheduled monthly on Wednesday evenings in the intimate setting of the Wolfinsohn Recital Room.
Our chamber music program boasts passionate amateur performers who thrive through interactions with their peers and enthusiastic faculty coaching. Students who are just entering the enriching world of chamber music may not have performance as a goal; they are welcome to explore the literature in a serious way without the pressure of a performance. The more experienced groups participate at Longy because our numerous recital opportunities provide the flexibility to accommodate the schedules of working professionals, families, and full-time students.
Many teachers' studios and departments host additional recitals, performance classes, coffee concerts, master classes, and other informal performances. Ensemble and repertory courses typically culminate in a final public performance. The Longy Chamber Chorus, Early Music ensembles, Early Dance Group, and jazz ensembles all present public performances.
CONTINUING STUDIES PERFORMANCES
Students in the Continuing Studies Division may participate in musical afternoon or evening performances, which are free and open to the public. These intimate settings present a combination of solo performers and chamber ensembles in a broad range of repertoire and instrumental and vocal combinations.
MUSICAL EVENINGS
These informal recitals are held once a month in the Wolfinsohn Room and are intended for students in the Preparatory and Continuing Studies Divisions as well as the Conservatory. Scheduling is done on a first-come first-serve basis, but preference will be given to registered chamber ensembles.
