New Faculty Announcement
Longy School of Music of Bard College announces violinists Yura Lee and Jesse Mills will join the conservatory faculty effective fall, 2012. They will accompany a vibrant, world-class faculty including Laura Bossert, Mark Lakirovich, Malcolm Lowe, and Paula Majerfeld.
Violinist Yura Lee, recipient of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, is enjoying a career that takes her all over the world. Her musical integrity and her compelling artistry have been praised by both critics and fellow artists. Ms. Lee is highly active in many facets of the music world – as a soloist with orchestras, as a chamber musician at major festivals, and as a master teacher. Ms. Lee earned two Artist Diplomas, one from Indiana University and another from the New England Conservatory. Her main teachers included Namyun Kim, Dorothy DeLay, Hyo Kang, Miriam Fried, Paul Biss, Thomas Riebl, Nobuko Imai, and Ana Chumachenko. Two-time Grammy nominated violinist Jesse Mills enjoys performing music of many genres, from classical to contemporary. Mills is highly regarded as a champion of contemporary music, a renowned improvisational artist, as well as a composer. Mills is a founding member of the Horszowski Trio, as well as Duo Prism, a violin-piano duo with Rieko Aizawa, which earned first prize at the Zinetti International Competition in Italy in 2006. Mills is also co-artistic director of the Alpenglow Chamber Music Festival in Colorado. Mills is a graduate of the Juilliard School where he was a student of Dorothy DeLay, Robert Mann, and Itzhak Perlman. The biography of Mr. Mills along with his teaching philosophy can be found here.
