Record-Setting Incoming Conservatory Class!
|
|
This fall, Longy will welcome the largest incoming conservatory class in our history for which we received a record number of applications and inquiries. Since Fall 2006, we have seen a 17% increase in the number of inquiries from students interested in Longy. The total number of applications for the Fall 2007 incoming class was 13% more than the previous high record. Due to the increase in the applicant pool, Longy was able to accept 6% fewer of all applicants this year than last, which contributes to a higher standard in our student profile. Some interesting statistics regarding Fall 2007's incoming class:- 85% first contacted us through the Longy website
- 84% graduate, 16% undergraduate
- 30% male, 70% female
- 95% receive financial aid
- 12 countries and 25 states represented
- 25% international students
Our incoming student body includes two first-prize winners of major musical competitions: Sergey Antonov, Cello, Tchaikovsky Competition (Moscow, Russia); and Dizhou Zhao, Piano, International Keyboard Institute and Festival (New York, NY). This year we welcome graduates of American University, Berklee College of Music, Boston College, Boston Conservatory, DePaul University, Eastman School of Music, Harvard University, Ithaca College, Lehigh University, Manhattan School of Music, New England Conservatory, Northwestern University, and the University of Texas (Austin).

New! LONGY ALUMNI RELATIONS
|
|
Get Involved! We are thrilled to launch Longy's office of Alumni Relations this year. Our initial project is to find out what our alumni are doing, where they are living, and how we can promote and celebrate their accomplishments. We will also assemble an Alumni Relations steering committee which will help us best connect with and serve Longy alumni.
Sarah Glenn '06 will coordinate the alumni relations efforts.
"I am so excited to have the opportunity to create an Alumni Relations program in collaboration with alumni, students, faculty, and staff. Together, we will create an alumni association that is fun, helpful, and a source of meaningful connections for years to come. As a Longy alumna, I know firsthand the value of an education from Longy, and I know the importance of staying connected to my classmates and to my school. I have a vested interest in making sure our Alumni Relations program serves our graduates."
If you graduated from Longy, stay in touch! Tell us what you are up to these days. When you are in Boston, let us know. We would love to meet over coffee and discuss how Longy alumni and their school can be mutually supportive.
If you have ideas or would like to be part of the planning process for alumni involvement, please contact Sarah Glenn at sarah.glenn@longy.edu or 617.876.0956 x652.
