"Musical Time Machine"
At Sunday's kickoff of Literacy Month at the Boston Children's Museum, Juliana Soltis, baroque and modern cello, and Sarah Paysnick, baroque and modern flute, both graduate students in Longy's Experiential Education Program, will perform in a "Musical Time Machine," going back in time (complete with period costumes) to show the differences between early and modern instruments. "Carter 100th:
Celebrating the Legendary Elliott Carter"
Longy celebrates the 100th birthday of legendary composer Elliott Carter, who studied under Longy faculty member Nadia Boulanger.
This is part of a citywide series of Carter birthday celebration concerts being held at Longy, New England Conservatory, Harvard and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. The series features Carter's five string quartets
and other works. The Longy concert by the renowned Pacifica Quartet, who are Visiting Artists in Chamber Music at Longy, features Carter's String Quartet No. 3, Beethoven's String Quartet, Op. 132, and Crumb's "Black Angels."
