Library Sponsors a Bach "Whodunit": Oct. 27 Who wrote the Bach cello suites, J.S. Bach or his wife? Martin Jarvis, PhD, an associate professor at Charles Darwin University in Australia, pieces together forensic, musical and other circumstantial evidence to present an alternative view of Anna Magdalena Bach's role in the life and musical output of her very famous husband (more). Talk sponsored by Longy's Bakalar Music Library, Monday, Oct. 27, 4 pm, Wolfinsohn Room, 27 Garden St., Cambridge.
Boulanger Exhibit at Harvard: Oct. 30-Nov. 1 An exhibit on "Nadia Boulanger and her American Composition Students" can be viewed Oct. 30 to Nov. 1 at Harvard's Loeb Music Library. Boulanger, a renowned music teacher, served on the Longy faculty
from 1938-45. "We've been tremendously appreciative of the opportunity to
view Longy's Boulanger-related collections and borrow some items," said
Elizabeth Craft, project assistant. For more on exhibit and the
weekend's presentations, click here.
Teaching Musicians: A Photographer's View During intimate one-on-one lessons and larger classroom sessions, photographer Diane Asseo Griliches, a member of Longy's Board of Visitors, captures the intensive teacher-student relationship. Photographs were taken during lessons
at Longy, Boston University, Juilliard, New England Conservatory, Tanglewood, Harlem Public
Schools, Berklee, Ali
Akbar Khan College,
Manhattan School of Music, Lincoln School, Harvard and in the teachers'
homes. It's a terrific book for music lovers and people who appreciate fine black-and-white photography. Available at book stores, or buy online.
