Longitude continues ninth season with free concert of chamber works
April 15 program includes diverse chamber works by DeMey, Saariaho, Cless, Hyla and Schnittke
Cambridge, Mass. — Longitude, Longy School of Music’s premiere new-music ensemble, will perform a concert of chamber music works on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at 8:00 pm in Edward M. Pickman Concert Hall, Longy School of Music, located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Longitude is in its ninth season and is under the direction of Longy faculty members Kate Vincent and Paul Brust.
This dynamic concert of contemporary music features Table Music (Musique de Tables) by Thierry De Mey (1987),”New Gates” by Kaija Saariaho (1996), “Inbound” by Elliot Cless (2007), Lee Hyla’s “Dream of the Innocent III” (1987) and a work by Schnittke. While these works range from the cacophonous to the imaginative, this concert will be sure to bring an exciting array of musical expression and intrigue to the curious concertgoer.
Admission to the concert is free. Concert hall is wheelchair accessible. Street parking available.
About Longitude
Longitude, a new-music ensemble, is dedicated to 20th- and 21-century chamber works. It performs three to four major concerts each academic year. Its repertory extends from works by masters such as Schoenberg, Stravinsky and Hindemith to premieres by contemporary composers. The ensemble often works directly with composers, including Leon Kirchner, John Harbison, Lee Hyla, John MacDonald, Boris Tishchenko, Scott Wheeler, and Longy's own composition faculty and students.
