From Baritone Thomas Meglioranza to Family Series Fun, Fall Brings Something for Everyone at Longy School of Music

Cambridge, MA – From baritone Thomas Meglioranza’s performance on Oct. 24, the Longy Conservatory Orchestra’s program Oct. 23, to musical fun at the Family Series, “BlueNote Grill,” Oct. 25, there’s something for all age groups at Longy School of Music in the coming weeks.

Here is a sampling of the many upcoming performances and programs at Longy. Unless otherwise noted, all performances are in Longy’s Pickman Concert Hall, 27 Garden St., Cambridge (Harvard Square). Thomas Meglioranza, baritone, to Launch Longy's Unique Voices Series Oct. 24, 8pm

Hailed as “one of America’s finest young baritones” by The New Yorker magazine, Thomas Meglioranza, Visiting Artist in Voice at Longy School of Music, will perform World War I era songs Saturday, Oct. 24, 8pm in Longy’s Pickman Hall, 27 Garden St., Cambridge (Harvard Square). The concert is part of Longy's Unique Voices Concert Series, generously funded by Jane and Neil Pappalardo. Accompanied by pianist Reiko Uchida, works will include Cohan, Weill, Sieczynski, Poulenc, Debussy, Ives, Bond and more. Longy Conservatory Orchestra Features BSO Cellist in Oct. 23 Concert

Join us Friday, Oct. 23, at 8pm when the Longy Conservatory Orchestra performs with Mihail Jojatu, cellist for the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Longy’s premier Conservatory orchestra will be conducted by Julian Pellicano. The program will be held at Longy’s Pickman Hall, 27 Garden St., Cambridge (Harvard Square). Works will include Schubert: Symphony No. 8 "Unfinished," and Dvorak: Cello Concerto in B minor. Admission: Free but tickets required. Longy to Dish Up Musical Fun at Family Series Sunday, Oct. 25, 2pm

There’s a composer in the kitchen and the joint is jumpin! Longy School of Music will dish up family musical fun at its first Family Series concert of the season, “BlueNote Grill,” Sunday, Oct. 25, 2pm, in Longy’s Pickman Hall, 27 Garden St., Cambridge (Harvard Square). Bring the family to see composer and flutist Nikola Radan, Honors A Cappella Singers, and Adriana Ausch's Kids Dalcroze Music & Movement Ensemble. Join Chef Nikola and his singing waitstaff for a full-course, fun-filled musical feast. Kids will discover music’s secret ingredients and sing for their supper.  Longy’s Modern American Music Concert Oct. 25 to Feature ‘Meltdown Incentive’

Longy School of Music’s Modern American Music (MAM) Series will feature “The Meltdown Incentive” and “Electric Geometry” in its concert Sunday, Oct. 25, 7pm at Longy’s Pickman Hall, 27 Garden St., Cambridge (Harvard Square). Bridging the gaps between classical music and jazz, concert music and theater, the Meltdown Incentive explores the complex relationship between text, sound and music in entertaining and thought-provoking new ways. Their personality and sense of humor makes their performances fresh and exciting experiences for all types of audiences. Performers include Sara Bielanski, voice, Todd Brunel, clarinet, Tanya Maggi, viola, Ed Broms, bass, and Delvyn Case, piano. Two piano improvisations, “Electric Geometry,” feature Marc Rossi and Ben Schwendener, pianists/composers. The works realize a unique musical language based on George Russell’s Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization.
