Longy’s Premiere New Music Ensemble, Longitude, To Open Season with Nov. 11 Concert

Cambridge, MA -- Longy School of Music’s Longitude New Music Ensemble will present a concert on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 8 p.m. at Longy School of Music, Edward M. Pickman Concert Hall, 27 Garden Street in Cambridge (Harvard Square). Admission is free. Longy is located near public transportation (the MBTA’s Red Line stop at Harvard Square and various buses stop nearby). The concert hall is wheelchair accessible.

Celebrating the exploration of texture and style, this concert promises to be an exciting opener to the 2009-10 Longitude season. The program will feature Sofia Gubaidulina’s Rejoice! for Violin and Cello, Roger Zahab’s Venus Transported for String Quartet, Stefan Wolpe’s Suite Im Hexachorde for Oboe and Clarinet, and Joan Tower’s Amazon.

About Longitude
Longitude, Longy School of Music’s premiere new music ensemble, is dedicated to 20th and 21st century chamber works and performs three to four concerts each academic year. Its repertoire extends from works by such masters as Schoenberg, Stravinsky and Hindemith to premieres by contemporary composers. The ensemble often works directly with composers, including Leon Kirchner, John Harbison, Lee Hyla, John MacDonald, Boris Tischenko, Scott Wheeler, and Longy’s own composition faculty and students. Longitude is under the artistic direction of Longy faculty members Paul Brust and David Russell.
