Cambridge, MA – Longy School of Music will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Gessner-Schocken Concert Series on Friday December 10 at 8:00pm with critically acclaimed pianist and Longy Artist Diploma student Simon Tedeschi.

Recognized as “one of the best musicians of his generation worldwide” by pianist Leslie Howard, Tedeschi’s performances have garnered an array of awards, including the Centenary of Federation Medal of Australia, honors for keyboard at the Royal Overseas League Music Competition in London, and Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year. His debut CD with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra has received nominations for a MO Award for Performer of the Year and an ARIA Award for Classical Record of the Year.

A classically trained pianist from Sydney, Australia, Tedeschi’s performances have been enjoyed by eminent international figures, including Luciano Pavarotti, George W. Bush, the Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark, and the Dalai Lama. Known for his ability to perform a wide-range of genres, Tedeschi is noted as one of the rare classical pianists with the talent to cross over into jazz improvisation. His performance at Longy School of Music’s Edward M. Pickman Hall will showcase not only classical pieces but also his own arrangement of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. Admission is free; tickets are required. (For tickets email tickets@longy.edu or visit www.longy.edu)

The Gessner-Schocken Concert Series is established in honor of Ruth Gessner-Schocken and Wolfgang Schocken, recognizing their lifelong devotion to the art of music, and in particular, to the song and chamber music literature, as well as their years of service to and support of the Longy School of Music. Established in 1996, this concert series features outstanding young artists, acclaimed performers, visiting ensembles, and members of the Longy faculty whose playing is of the highest caliber.
