May 5, 2011 – The critically acclaimed Radius Ensemble has been named Ensemble in Residence at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts, bginning with the 2011–2012 concert season. “We are delighted to partner with Radius Ensemble,” said Longy president Karen Zorn. “Our students will benefit from exposure to the Ensemble’s artistic quality, as well as its innovative strategies for reaching new audiences for both classical repertory and contemporary music.” The residency will include a four-concert subscription series in the newly refurbished Pickman Hall as well as master classes, open rehearsals and a competition for student composers. Concluding its twelfth season on May 14 & 15 with concerts at MIT and Rivers School Conservatory, Radius Ensemble has earned rave reviews and a dedicated following by reinvigorating classical music for a new generation. A chamber music ensemble of winds, strings and piano, Radius performs music from the classical period to the modern era, from beloved masterpieces to undiscovered gems. Its musicians are outstanding professionals inspired by tradition, willing to take risks, and committed to connecting with a diverse group of listeners. Founded in 1999 by oboist and impresario Jennifer Montbach, Radius Ensemble has held residencies at MIT and the Rivers School Conservatory, and has also appeared on concert series throughout New England, including the Rockport Chamber Music Festival and New York’s Music in Chelsea. Radius has commissioned and premiered numerous works by Boston-area composers and has won several Meet the Composer grants from the National Endowment for the Arts/New England Foundation for the Arts. Committed to community outreach, Radius presents a free Saturday-morning family concert in Harvard Square, and distributes free tickets to disadvantaged children and their parents or mentors through local community service agencies. Its popular podcast of live performances plus composer and musician interviews can be found on iTunes. More at http://radiusensemble.org. CONTACT: Jennifer Montbach |
