Musicianship Studies: DALCROZE EURHYTHMICS

Eurhythmics classes are designed to give children the opportunity to learn the basic elements of music through experiences that are interactive and social: movement, listening, singing, and percussion playing. They nurture the imagination while encouraging musical development. Learning through theirown curiosity, children begin to trust their ideas and creations. Classes are sequential and offer an age-appropriate curriculum which is an integral part of Longy’s Preparatory Department curriculum.  Dalcroze Eurhythmics is an excellent complement to both traditional and Suzuki instrumental training.

LongySchool of Music is internationally recognized for its Dalcroze Eurhythmics
programs. At the school’s founding in 1915, Eurhythmics was an integral part of a comprehensive approach to the development of a complete musician. Dalcroze classes were taught by Renee Longy, the founder’s daughter, who was dedicated to complete musical training and building of cumulative skills. Today, Dalcroze Eurhythmics at Longy continues its longstanding tradition of educating musicians of all ages and abilities and is a wonderful avenue for lifelong learning in music.

For Parents
You are an essential part of the musical life of your child. It is your enthusiasm and love for music that supports your child’s own musical growth. Singing, dancing, playing, and listening together at home make music a part of daily life. Above all, be patient and stay committed! (In the Toddler classes, parents participate in the classroom. Beginning with age 4, we recommend that parents be available on the Longy premises while the child is in class.)
