The International Baroque Institute at Longy offers a comprehensive program taught by an unparalleled international faculty. The program features eight full days of master classes, ensembles, orchestra sessions, concerts, lectures and continuo coaching. IBIL is intended for professional & pre-professional Baroque strings (violin, viola, cello), Baroque winds (recorder, traverso, oboe), viola da gamba, harpsichord, singers, and Baroque dancers. Other instrumentalists or continuo players (lute, harp, organ, bassoon, violone, etc.) are welcome to join the Chamber Music program and the Institute Orchestra.
This year's focus is on composers active in 17th- and 18th-century Naples, with a special focus on Nicola Porpora's first opera "L’Agrippina" of 1708. The city's Spanish rulers founded music schools on the premises of four monasteries which housed Europe's finest musicians and composers. In our master classes, chamber music, orchestral and dance sessions, we will deal with all aspects of interpretation of the music of Scarlatti, Cimarosa, Porpora, Pergolesi and their contemporaries.
