Suzuki Violin Summer Program

Are you looking for a fun and inspiring summer activity for your Suzuki violinists? The Longy School of Music’s Summer Suzuki String Program may be just for you. This two week program is designed to give Suzuki trained violinists in Book 1-5 a concentrated study of their instruments and repertoire. Each student will receive three hours of instruction including a mini-lesson, ensemble class and an art enrichment class. Lessons will be arranged in Masterclass format with 4 students sharing a class. In the ensemble classes, students will use their pre-learned and memorized repertory to address, review, polish and work on reading and ensemble playing. Snack time will be included in the morning schedule. Minimum age requirement is 7 years.
Completion of the repertoire through Perpetual Motion is a pre-requisite for admission of Book 1students. Parents are not required to attend the sessions with their children.
Dalcroze Creative Music Week

Come explore music in this unique and creative class! Activities include rhythm, singing and movement games, music stories, and introduction to percussion instruments. The 4-6 year old class will learn the instruments of the orchestra. Music includes American Folk Songs and Saint-Saens’ Carnival of the Animals.
Only one registration fee is charged if attending both weeks.

Eurhythmics Plus: An Introduction to the Piano
For ages 6-8
Meets: Wednesdays, June 4-July 9 (7 sessions)
5:00-6:15pm
Fee: $220 plus $30 registration fee
Children experience eurhythmics activities that will enhance their piano playing. They learn keyboard geography, range, simple songs, the musical alphabet.
Summer Afternoon Piano Program

Audition Times: Sunday, March 9 and Sunday, April 6
Enrich your summer, meet other pianists, and let the simulating environment at the Longy School of Music take you to the next level in your musical development. While students polish performance skills in their piano duo classes, they round out their afternoons with daily enrichment classes that will include performance classes, piano literature, improvisation, and other activities. The program accepts pianists of all levels, with a minimum proficiency of J.S. Bach’s Notebook for Anna Magdelena.

Chorus
Special event (changing from day to day)
Audition Times: Sunday, March 9 and Sunday, April 6. Late auditions Sunday, April 27
Students will be asked to play a scale and arpeggio of their choice, perform a slow and a fast solo piece. Students will also be asked to sight-read a short selection and to demonstrate rhythmic reading skills. All students are requested to audition March 9 if possible. Once admitted, these students will have the opportunity for early registration. If space remains in the program, additional auditions will be held April 6 and April 27.

Longy Cello Festival

Monday, July 28-August 1, 2008 from 2-6pm
Fees: $560 + $30 registration fee
Open to intermediate to advanced cellists, students will explore different aspects of cello technique, participate in masterclasses, supervised and independent ensemble rehearsals, and a daily seminar class. Master classes will provide a unique opportunity for students to analyze their videotaped performances to build on aspects of stage presence, performance and ensemble technique, and projection. A final concert will take place from 4-6pm on Friday, August 1.
Private lessons are not included with the program, but interested students may register for lessons by arrangement with the instructors.
